This is a highly fragrant essential oil used widely in the cosmetic industry as well as in some medicines, such as for motion sickness. However, it is best known as an aphrodisiac. It is also used as a hormone regulator. It is stimulating to the adrenals and thymus and balancing to other parts of the endocrine system. Ylang ylang can be used topically to relieve the pain of insect bites as well as to lower fevers associated with typhoid and malaria.
In aromatherapy circles, Ylang Ylang is regarded as heart oil, both in the romantic and therapeutic sense. It might attract attention because of its warm, tropical aroma, but it is also used to improve both the libido and cardiovascular system. It is for external use only, including, of course, use in a diffuser. The amount used in a water diffuser is roughly 3 drops per 100 ml or one drop per ounce.
Ylang Ylang blends well with Ginger, Lavender, Lemon, and Yuzu Essential Oils.
