Bay laurel has traditionally been used to relieve digestive complaints and decongest the lungs and sinuses. It has a slightly camphorous aroma that is herbaceous but distinct. It is strongly antimicrobial and tends to reduce congestion and swelling in the lymphatic system. Though is generally regarded as safe, it should be used cautiously and only in very small amounts. It is excellent in diffusers and blends well with eucalyptus and rosemary.
